Artec's ScanROM 4E offers amazing versatility at an incredible price. It scans both color photos and slides up to 4" x 6". The ScanROM 4E is a cost-effective scanning solution that provides 24-bit color, single pass scanning at up to 400 dpi optically, 4800 dpi interpolated. This is part of a series of multi-function scanners for photos and transparencies. Positive film and paper documents (up to 4" x 6") can be directly scanned without a transparency kit. The scanner's specially-designed input cartridge protects original documents from damage during a scan. The input cartridge also prevents paper jams -- unlike other products that rely on troublesome input holders to hold the document for scanning, our model eliminates paper jam problems.

Special Features/Recommendations

The 4E is one of the least expensive photo and slide scanners we've seen. About the size of an external CD-ROM drive, a drawer slides out where you can place photos up to 4 x 6 inches, film positives (transparencies), or slides. The system is not particularly speedy, but it is certainly easy to use and convenient. The quality level makes it more suitable for families than demanding business use. Comes bundled with Adobe PhotoDeluxe.
